Concentrates for spraying or dipping or ready-to-use dusts represent the oldest formulation types for controlling external parasites in livestock and pets. They have been massively used in the last century up to the 1990s. Later on, they have been widely replaced by ready-to-use pour-ons, injectables and insecticide-impregnated ear-tags with safer and more modern and effective active ingredients.

Nowadays a few such concentrates are still available for some uses, although numerous products have been withdrawn in many countries, mostly for safety and/or environmental reasons.

Where available, they often offer the cheapest option for the control on external parasites of livestock and dogs. However, efficacy is often significantly weakened through resistance of many parasites to these old chemical classes. because many pests have already developed resistance to them.

Since the mid 1980s most Animal Health companies have not introduced new products as concentrates for spraying, dipping or as dusts for treating livestock and/or pets. Innovative ready-to-use delivery forms are mostly preferred over concentrates, also because they are usually more profitable for them.

Many such products are also approved for off-animal use in and around livestock premises, but these uses are not described in detail in this site.
