Amitraz is a veteran tickicide and insecticide that is still abundantly used in cattle (for plunge dipping and spraying), but scarcely in sheep, swine and pets. It is very effecive against ticks, and controls also mites and lice. But it is ineffective against many other insect parasites (flies, mosquitoes, fleas, etc.). Amitraz is toxic to cats and horses.

Amitraz is also used against agricultural pests.

The table below indicates some usual dosing recommendations for amitraz issued by manufacturers or documented in the scientific literature. They may not be approved in some countries.

Dosing recommendations for AMITRAZ
DOGS
WARNING: some dog breeds (e.g. Chihuahuas, Collies, Shepherds) are quite susceptible to amitraz: it is better not to treat them with amitraz
Delivery Parasites Dose (against amitraz-susceptible parasites)
Topical Cheyletiella spp Bath (dip) in 250-500 ppm solution weekly until neg. control
Topical Demodicosis Bath (dip) in 250-500 ppm solution (don't rinse, let it dry). Rep every 1-2 weeks; after negative skin scrapping continue for 2-4 weeks more.
Topical Ticks Bath (dip) in 250-500 ppm solution; ~1 week protection
Topical Otodectes cynotis
Apply a few drops of a 0.5% amitraz solution in each ear; rep 5x every 4 days.
Topical Sarcoptes scabiei Bath (dip) in 250 ppm solution weekly x 4-6 weeks; or  cada semana x 4-6 semanas; or in 500 solution x5 every 4 days
CATS. Amitraz is toxic to cats!
CATTLE
Delivery Parasites Dose (against amitraz-susceptible parasites)
Topical Lice, mites Plunge dipping at 200 ppm or spraying at 250 ppm. Strictly follow replenishment instructions. Rep after 1-2 weeks if needed.
Topical Ticks: Boophilus microplus,  AmblyommaRhipicephalus spp, etc. Plunge dipping at 200 ppm or spraying at 250 ppm. Strictly follow replenishment instructions. 7-9 days protection.
SHEEP & GOATS
Delivery Parasites  Dose (against amitraz-susceptible parasites)
Topical Lice, mites Plunge dipping at 200 ppm or spraying at 250 ppm. Strictly follow replenishment instructions. Rep after 1-2 weeks if needed.
Topical Ticks: Amblyomma, Ixodes, Rhipicephalus, etc. Plunge dipping at 200 ppm or spraying at 250 ppm. Strictly follow replenishment instructions.
SWINE 
Delivery Parasites  Dose (against amitraz-susceptible parasites)
Topical Lice, mites Spray with 500 ppm solution. Rep after 1-2 weeks
Topical Mites Pour-on (2%): 100-180 kg: 40 ml/animal + 5 ml in each ear. 180-240 kg 60 ml/animal + 5 ml in each ear. Rep after 7-10 days.
Topical Lice Pour-on (2%): 100-180 kg: 40 ml/animal + 5 ml in each ear. 180-240 kg 60 ml/animal + 5 ml in each ear. Rep after 1-2 weeks.
HORSES. Amitraz is toxic to horses!
